Thursday's Three

Last Thursday's Three of January!  I can not believe how fast the month as flown by, but I don't mind I'm counting down the days to the end of school and finally summer!

I just ordered this beaut this week and found out yesterday it has finally shipped! (Confession: I am an impulsive online shopper...don't tell my boyfriend) I can't wait to wear it and it will add a little edge and glamour to any outfit.
I know this isn't a hair product, but it still applies because it used for hair and I have been obsessed with it.  I have tried to wear it almost everyday this week but finally narrowed it down to one day and one outfit.  I am definitely not a cat person, especially due to my intense allergy to them, but I love the quirkiness the cat print brings to it.
I don't usually have a problem with my eyeshadow creasing, but when I received this primer in my Birchbox this month I have sworn to never go another day without it ever again.  It goes on almost clear and doesn't feel greasy at all, like a lot of primers.  It also held my eyeshadow and helped keep it's intensity all day long!  It's the best, just trust me and go get your hands on a bottle.  It will be your makeup's new best friend.

On Trend

Striped accessories, eggplant makeup, and emerald apparel are storming the style streets and the runways.  Try out these looks on yourself with these trendy finds.

Stripes:
This watch is very wearable because of it's classic colors but adds the stripes for a fun surprise.
I kind of have an obsession with hats.  My mom has told me that when I was a kid I wouldn't leave the house without wearing one!  I think this Volcom hat is super cute and like the watch, it is very wearable because of the black and white color scheme.
This bag by TL180 adds a nice detail to any outfit and the red contrast really pops.

Eggplant:
1. Mac Eye Shadow in Fig - $15
Like I have said previously in a post, I am so sad to see people wearing the same makeup look everyday. This eyeshadow is a perfect way to change it up.  An added bonus with any purple-hued shadow is that it flatters every eye color, especially you brown-eyed ladies.
2. Cover Girl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Berry Twist - $8.99
Red lips are already intimidating and I am sure this berry color is down right terrifying, but don't let it be, because this stick is more of a gloss than a lipstick and it will go on quite sheer.
3. essie Nail Color in Sole Mate - $7.79
Nail polish a very easy and fearless way to wear a bold color.  Use Sole Mate by essie to keep your nails on trend.

Emerald:
1. Vince Camuto Classic Logo Cuff Green - $88 $59.99
Emerald or any shade of green can sometimes seem a little scary.  Ease into the trend with this beautiful and polished green cuff.
2. Romwe Furcal Design Green Jumper - $52.99
This sweater is very bold so pair it with dark wash skinnies, minimal jewelry, and black shoes to keep the color at the center of attention.
3. Valentino Sleeveless Dress - $1,545
The classic cut and modern lines keep this dress subdued with this bold color.

I hope these looks inspire you to be bold and to not shy away from colors and prints.  Fashion and makeup is meant to be fun and exciting, so don't deprive your style's potential.

Valentine's Day Inspiration

Only eighteen days until Valentine's Day! This Valentine's Day stop your special someone's heart with these beautifully girly looks.  I am in love with both of these looks and am really considering buying both dresses though my debit card might not appreciate it; but no girl can have too many dresses, right?

Red on Valentine's Day will never go out of style.  It is bold, classy, and downright gorgeous.  I also believe that like a LBD, every girl should own a LRD (little red dress).  The lace "cutouts" give this dress interest and keep it on trend.  I paired this dress with these rhinestoned earrings to add some glamor and the sparkle will keep your date's right on you the whole night.  I suggest three hairstyles: messy up-do, loose curls with front pulled back, or deep side part and pulled over one shoulder.

Second look: Modcloth Affection for Confection Dress - $84.99 (http://sharethelove.modcloth.com/a/clk/1lxDPb, use this link to receive $15 off $50 purchase + free shipping), Forever 21 Graduated Radiant Cut Earrings - $5.80
This creamy blush colored dress is absolutely adorable and it actually has a lot of versatility.  You can wear for Easter, spring or summer brunch, wedding shower, ect. So though it might be a bit pricey, you will get your money's worth, I promise. I paired these earrings because they will dress up this somewhat casual dress and the gold accent to the earrings will compliment the creamy blush color of the dress.  Because this dress is less glamorous than the red dress I suggest wearing your hair in two ways: pony tail with the front pieces of your hair pulled out or down in loose Veronica Lake-esque waves.

I hope you can find some inspiration in these outfits and that your Valentine's Day is magical.

Thursday's Three

One of fashion resolutions this year was to wear more statement pieces.  I think they one statement pieces adds much more to an outfit than fifteen different bracelets, earrings, and necklaces.  It looks more polished and has the power to change a simple outfit of jeans and t-shirt into something more eye-catching.  This necklace from Bauble Bar (which is my absolute favorite website for statements accessories) is a perfect necklace to add to any outfit for any occasion.  It may seem very large and intimidating but it is actually much smaller and wearable than you think.
You may think your hair is pretty clean after your usual hair washing routine but it's actually not.  Using styling, heat protecting, and other hair products your scalp and strands are full of product build-up.  To get them squeaky clean you need to use a clarifying shampoo at least once a week.  I use Shampoo Two; it deep cleans my hair with the freshest lemony scents (sometimes I use it more often just to smell it).  After using it my hair has much more life and becomes easier to manage when it comes to styling.
Everyday I see girls wearing the same makeup look that they have been wearing since they started wearing makeup in eighth grade.  As you mature your makeup look should mature with you.  Yes, neutrals and browns are nice and easy but so is adding some color every once in a while.  Swapping out your everyday neutral with this multi-eye color flattering shade in Jade will instantly wake up your look and your eyes.  Makeup wasn't meant to make you look boring, so don't let it.  This week try to wear at least three different looks.  Try winged liner, a berry stained pout, or even some coral blush.  Be adventurous and have fun!

Skin Savior

Say hello to the newest staple in my skin care routine, the Olay Pro X Advanced Cleansing System.

I had seen, heard, and read so many great things about the Clarisonic, a vibrating and rotating cleansing brush, and was dying to get my hands on one -- that was until I saw the price tag.  $200 for a rotating brush?! I could not find any reason to justify buying it, so I went on the hunt for a comparable and budget-friendly dupe.

After a quick Google search and reading many reviews I decided to buy the Olay Pro X.  I went home and immediately had to try it out.  The brush was so soft and the tool came with 2-speeds, one for exfoliating (fastest) and one for gentle cleansing (slowest).  After using it my skin felt truly clean for the first time ever. This feeling was proven when my cotton pad of toner came off completely clean.  Because it created the smoothest canvas, my moisturizer kept my face supple longer and made my makeup last longer as well.

This is a must buy for everyone!  It works with any cleanser, exfoliate, and scrub and makes your product actually do the job it claims to do (blackhead remover, makeup remover, ect.).  You will not regret this purchase at all AND it does just as good a job as the $200 Clarisonic does.

Achieve your freshest face with the Olay Pro X Advanced Cleansing System.

Beauty Resolution You Should Make

The beauty resolution you need to make is Birchbox!  Birchbox is a monthly $10 subscription; you receive 4-5 sample sizes of high-end products.  There are three kinds of boxes that are created for each month (example featured above) and you will receive one according to a personalized assessment you take when you sign up.  The boxes include makeup, hair, health, and fragrance products. $10 a month might seem like a lot but you are receiving way more than $10 worth of beauty products (I would gladly give up my Netlfix account and addiction to afford Birchbox).  Birchbox was the very first monthly beauty subscription of it's kind and it has proved that it is the best with their extensive shop and absolutely amazing team.

I have been receiving Birchbox for the past 5 months and I have fallen more and more in love with it every month.  I get pretty excited about my magazines each month but this is even better because I get to use the products they advertise and not just read about them. Because of this I can thank Birchbox for helping me find my favorite beauty products like my Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner, Embryolisse moisturizer, and the Balm's Mary Lou Manizer highlighting powder.

One of my favorite parts about Birchbox is their points system.  Each month when you receive your box you can review the products from your box in their shop and in return you will receive 10 points.  Each 100 points earned equals $10 to their online shop.  The points expire 365 days after you have earned those points, which means you can save up points for quite a few months so you can get some pretty pricey products you have been craving.

I hope you complete this beauty resolution very soon and you can see why me and millions of other women are in love with Birchbox and you can have your most beautiful year yet!

Thursday's Three: Texture

Today's Thursday's Three is all about texture!  Texture is very important to incorporate in some way everyday.  It adds intrigue, life, and some spunk to your look and day.

This skirt is playing with two trends: leather and a circle cut.  The circle cut gives a playfulness to the leather so it does not appear too harshly.  And let's face it, you walk out of the house in a leather skirt you are gonna look and feel pretty darn chic, am i right?
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this spray! Any girl who loves those effortless beach waves needs to own this product.  You get the wave without the crunch like most sprays.  As a California girl, this product is always my go-to styling products to recreate the beach, without having to suffer through the grueling task of getting every bit of sand that seems to super-glue itself to your scalp for a week.
I even like my makeup British! This British based company makes phenomenal products, that I currently have been obsessed with.  The texture of liquid liner is so smooth and silky; it never cracks or creases like so many other liquid liners.  I especially love the olive color because it is a subtle way to break away from the blah black.  I currently own the olive and navy colors and I encourage you to do the same. Cheers!

Antioxidant Smoothie

As this terrible flu whirls around the country everyone is just waiting to get it.  But if you are like me, you hate and strongly refuse to receive a yearly flu shot, sadly because of this we are most susceptible to getting the dreaded flu.  Washing your hands and staying warm are good preventative ways, but the best way is to put foods that are high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants into your body that will build up your immune system.  Thanks to Martha Stewart's Whole Living smoothies (get the app with 72 smoothie recipes!!) I am going to share with you my all-time favorite quick and easy antioxidant smoothie.

Recipe
1. 2 cups mixed frozen berries - they MUST be frozen in order for the smoothie to be thick enough
2. 1 cup unsweetened pomegranate juice
3. 1 cup water
4. Ice, if you like your smoothies thicker and crunchier (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a blender; blend until smooth. (serves two)

The Best of the Golden Globes 2013

It's finally AWARDS SEASON! So many great movies and television to celebrate in 2012, from a tear-jerking and beautifully acted Les Miserables to a thrilling patriotic film like Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty.  Although I love engaging with the characters and feeling like a part of their world for two hours in a dark theatre, I think the most driving force for me to pay $12.50 a ticket is knowing in a few months these actors will step onto a red carpet with couture gowns, swoon-worthy hair, and jaw-dropping jewelry.  It gives me the opportunity, an opportunity I gladly accept, to drool in front of the TV screen and imagine what it would really feel like for a Chanel couture gown to touch my skin.  But since that will forever stay a dream, I will make up for it by researching about the ins and outs of red-carpet style.

Now onto the first award show of the year the 2013 Golden Globes!

Last night on the Golden Globes we saw so many amazing looks and today I'd like to highlight my three favorite of the night.

1. Anne Hathaway wearing Chanel Couture. Anne is an awards show pro! She finds the perfect combination of daring and elegant.  It might be the honeymoon glow that helps her porcelain perfect skin shine, but it is also highlighted by the winter white hue of her gown and the crystal embellishments.  The semi-peplum top paired with a structured bottom creates the most beautiful silhouette on her small and dainty frame.  I can't wait to see her at the Academy Awards.
2. Michelle Dockery wearing Alexandre Vauthier Couture.  If don't know who this is then I demand you to leave my blog, get a Netflix account, and start watching Downton Abbey! (Tip: Fight through the first episode, trust me they redeem themselves for that mess of an episode.)  Michelle has won my heart with her role of Mary in Downton (I won't say anything else, not to spoil any of it, for you crazies who haven't watched it).  The two-tone hue, lace, structured shoulders, and high neck may seem like a hot mess, but the colors are neutral yet pigmented enough to perfectly balance them all out.  I also particularly love that it seems to be a modern take on Mary's style.
3.  Naomi Watts wearing Zac Posen. Naomi wears the very "in" oxblood color beautifully and the dimensionality of the dress is breathtaking, well done Zac. The modest cutout in the front makes the look appropriate for the occasion (unlike Jessica Chastain's...yikes) and the large and deep cutout in the back adds drama.  This dress is an A+ in my book because of its stunning walking in and walking out.

Blush a Lil'

Blush is the new white! This pale pink color is a trendy way to bring interest to any outfit in exchange for a plain white piece.  Blush is also a very versatile color that can be worn for any occasion.  Bring light to your drab office attire with a blazer; pair a blush spaghetti-strap with delicate shorts for a carefree look; or even feature it with your handbag.  Try this new trend and hail in Spring appropriately with this pale pink hue!

Easy Guide for the Perfect Red

Here's the typical situation - You are sitting on the couch reading your favorite magazine and that month's trend report idolizes reds and the necessity for you to wear it this season; so, being the hopeful fashionista that you are, you get in the car and head down to the drugstore.  You make it to the makeup aisle and see the dozens of reds stacked up side to side, all looking almost identical. This is the part where you start to go a little crazy.  To help you out I have created a simple guide to find the best red for your skin tone.
Steps
Step 1: Determine whether your skin is cool or warm.  Cool skin will have blue or red/pink undertones. Fair skin will fall into cool. Warm skin will have yellow undertones. Beige and darker tones will fall into warm.
Step 2: Cool tones will look for blue-red lipsticks.  The blue will compliment your fair complexion and not be too bright for your skin.  Warm tones will look for orange-red lipsticks.  The orange will compliment your natural warmth. (Tip: the darker you are the brighter your lipstick can be)
Step 3: Put it on and immediately you feel a bit more glamorous.  The most important part to wearing red is to be CONFIDENT.
Tips
Tip #1: Exfoliate lips for smooth application.  I use E.L.F. Studio Lip Exfoliator ($3.00).
Tip #2: Use lip balm or chapstick to prevent cracks.
Tip #3: Line and fill in lips with a lip liner that corresponds with your lipstick shade. This will make the red adhere to the lips and last longer.
Tip #4: Buy drugstore lipsticks until you find the perfect color, then you can hash out more money for a higher end brand.

Thursday's Three

Thursday's Three - Jan 10

Thursday's Three - Jan 10 by logan-christine

Every Thursday I will be featuring "Thursday's Three."  TT's will include one fashion, one beauty, and one hair product I am currently lusting or loving that week.  I will try to include links for easy access to get your hands on them.

1. Cambridge Satchel Company The Metallics Line - £75 (new reduced sale price)
As you know I adore all thing British and this British company makes the "it" bags for the past year.  These satchels are cute, versatile, and make a great statement bag for any outfit.  This gold or rose colored bad is great because it makes a statement with the metallic but in a very wearable color.
This cream is the must-have cream in any makeup connoisseur's collection.  This French based company's miracle cream is handled by all top makeup artist and model.  If you are looking for soft, silky skin then you need this skin saver.
This weekly recovery mask is perfect for you ladies with damaged or frizzy hair.  I am a curly-haired lady myself, and with frequent heat stylers and blow-dryers -- well, let's just say my hair has seen better days-- I need a deep conditioning mask that will help cinch in my split ends.  What I love is this mask hydrates and smooths with the most delicious fruit scent.

Welcome to Zeal

Hello there and welcome to Zeal.  Zeal means great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective; in this case hair, beauty, and fashion. This is a place where I can document and (somewhat) organize my current lusts.  I will be coveting hair, beauty, and fashion trends and must-haves, and anything I dang well please to blog about (I mean it is my blog), in hopes to share with you a little part of myself and possibly guide you to finding those certain products or trends that just might change your life.
